The Pen and Paper: stationery, greetings card, fine writing, fine art materials, puzzles, gifts and more. In 2026 we celebrate 30 years in the heart of Cardiff’s Victorian Arcades.
Just a stone’s throw from the very new and shiny shopping centre of St David’s in the centre of Cardiff you will find the arcades that have been a part of the city’s shopping district since the 1850’s, and this is where you will find The Pen and Paper. In fact, if you’ve ever walked from the train station into town you’ve probably walked right past us, and taken a peek at our stunning window displays.
Over the last 30 years our store has become the place to go for all things stationery and art. Whether that’s your everyday office essentials of staples, pens and tape, or something more fun and exciting for your personal notebook, diary, letter writing or journalling. We also stock a wide range of brands for fine writing such as Rhodia and Leuchtturm, have recently bought in popular Japanese brands such as Midori and paying attention to companies that pride themselves on being ‘fountain pen friendly’.
Speaking of which, have you seen our range of fine writing pens and inks? We are well on the way to being the frontrunner in this area of the country! We have the classics such as Parker and Waterman, while also embracing new companies such as Tom’s Studio, and having all the international brands you would expect: Kaweco, Lamy, Sailor, Visconti, Esterbrook and more all have a home here. And with a rapidly growing range of inks from these brands and more, and a large range of testers for you to try before you buy, pen fans are in their element.
For all the artists out there, we stock a huge range of paints, pencils, pastels, inks, tools, paper, canvases and more. Whatever you need for your passion and creativity you will find with us, whether you are a professional, keen hobbyist, or just starting out we have something from Windsor and Newton, Caran d’Ache, Rosa, Derwent, Faber-Castell (and more!) for all ages.
Something we’ve always been known for is our greetings cards: we have hundreds of cards for every occasion, and even no occasion: our art and photography cards are particularly good for when only your own words will do. We’re proud to hold the widest range of Welsh language cards in the city (or anywhere nearby): we love to support UK businesses and particularly in our Welsh cards you will find homegrown businesses and artists.
There’s portions of the store we haven’t even touched on as there’s something different around every corner. (Do you need a souvenir of your trip to Cardiff? We’ve got you. A piece of A1 card for your child’s school project? Yep, we have it. Like to spend the evening relaxing with a puzzle? We have shelves and shelves of cute and fun and vibrant designs.
